The C-Suite Doesn’t Know What You’re Managing

You’re running a contingent workforce program that spans dozens of suppliers, multiple systems, fluctuating regulations, inconsistent job scoping, manager behavior, and worker classification risk—all while balancing speed, cost, and quality. And you do it well.

Meanwhile, the C-suite thinks you manage a few temp agencies and some spreadsheets.

That’s a problem.

Because as long as leadership sees your program as transactional, they won’t fund it strategically. They won’t see the risk. They won’t understand the opportunity. And they definitely won’t include you in workforce planning conversations where your input matters most.

That’s a shame, and we all know it. But how do you fix that?

Tell the story in their language.

Don’t say “fill rate.” Say “unfilled roles = lost productivity.”
Executives don’t care if you're at 95% unless you connect it to business impact.
Don’t say “VMS optimization.” Say “we’re uncovering inefficiencies that impact cost and risk.”
Make it about value creation instead of platform management.
Don’t say “MSP governance.” Say “we’re orchestrating a $40M labor channel with measurable ROI.”
Remind them this isn’t admin work when in reality it’s operational leadership.
And definitely don’t say “we handle the non-employee workforce.”
Say “we manage the largest, most flexible part of your talent engine. The one with the most upside and the least visibility.”

You are managing complexity that touches every part of the business.

It’s time the business knew that.
